Apple Developer Center Slowly Back Online

It’s been over a week now since Apple’s Developer Center has gone offline. This is all thanks to an intruder that hacked his way into the developer center last Thursday. Apple has since promised to completely rebuild everything and to slowly bring things back online. They have created an status page that shows the progress of their developer system and as of today, about half of it has come back online.

Here’s the actual statement that was sent out to developers via email.

Last Thursday, an intruder attempted to secure personal information of our registered developers from our developer website. Sensitive personal information was encrypted and cannot be accessed, however, we have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers’ names, mailing addresses, and/or email addresses may have been accessed. In the spirit of transparency, we want to inform you of the issue. We took the site down immediately on Thursday and have been working around the clock since then.

In order to prevent a security threat like this from happening again, we’re completely overhauling our developer systems, updating our server software, and rebuilding our entire database. We apologize for the significant inconvenience that our downtime has caused you and we expect to have the developer website up again soon.

 

 

Hack Makes Chat Heads Persistent Throughout iOS

Chat Heads was recently brought to iOS but it wasn’t quite the same as the Android version which allowed for the ‘Chat Heads’ to be visible even when the Facebook app isn’t open. Facebook mentioned that they couldn’t do the same for iOS due to it being too locked down.

It didn’t take long though for someone to Jailbreak hack this thing apart and make it happen, well sort of. It’s a bit buggy at the moment but appears that having ‘Chat Heads’ be persistent throughout iOS is possible if you have a Jailbroken phone and the people at the Verge show us how.

Blizzard’s Battle.net Gets Hacked

Mike Morhaime of Blizzard Entertainment has released an announcement that there has been unauthorized access to Blizzard’s internal network.

Morhaime states that they have taken steps to close the breach in security and are now working closely with law enforcement to investigate the situation.Battle.net

It is important to note that Blizzard does NOT believe that any personal information such as credit cards,billing addresses or real names have been compromised. Although they do mention that some internal data was illegally accessed, including a list of email addresses for battle.net users. Information about players on North American servers such as personal security question, Mobile and Dial-In Authentication we also accessed. However, this information alone is not enough to gain access to battle.net accounts.

Passwords to battle.net accounts were also compromised but these passwords are scrambled using Secure Remote Password Protocol (SRP) which protects passwords.
Blizzard cautions that even though the passwords are scrambled you should still consider changing your password.

An automated process will be coming along in the next few days to get battle.net users to change their secret questions and answers.
